If you’re camping in this country, the biggest danger you’ll have to face is that posed by the cold. However, in other countries there are one or two other things that you have to beware of.

In Canada and the US, campers have to deal with the possibility that a bear might wander over and have a root about. There’s plenty of advice about how to deal with this eventuality, although a lot of it is conflicting. Some say you should try and look as big as possible to scare the bear, some say you should curl into a ball and hope it leaves you alone. A third school of thought says you should climb a tree.

Not many people suggest getting a sleeping bag which makes you look like a bear.
