Following on from the post other day about crime at campsites I’ve found some more gadgets that can help keep your car safe at campsites. Small cameras can be hidden in the middle of soft toys that can sit on your parcel shelf or dashboard. Powered by batteries the units charge while your car is on the go from the cigarette lighter.
A small box then records the movie clips onto a memory card. You can go the whole hog with larger systems that have multiple camera’s for recording internal and external views. If your car is stolen from a campsite then you’ll be able to give the video to the police if you recover the car.
Other in car security systems include motion sensors, tracking devices and the famous South African flame throwers. If someone tries to break into the car then flames come from the side burning any thieves.
I can’t see that being legal in the UK so your best option is to use tracking, in car cameras, wheel locks and remove your CD / DVD players from the car while your away. Another idea is to tie a rope to your car, the rope to a bell next to your tent, if the bell goes your car is also going.
