The Algarve coastline, Costa Vicentina is been damaged by illegal camping according to the tourist board in Spain. The area classified as a National Park is coming under threat from campers dropping litter and creating campfires.
Surf instructor Dago Lipke who lives in the area has seen the change in the condition of the are “Around six years ago, the beaches suddenly became overcrowded with tents and caravans packed together in the car parks near the beaches and on the beaches themselves, leaving rubbish and used toilet paper all over the floor.”
It’s a growing concern for many parts of Spain and Europe with the increase pressures of the credit crunch. More and more people are turning to camping as it’s a cheap alternative to somewhat expensive hotels and villas. It’s still no excuse for campers to camp illegally and leave behind a footprint.
