I had the pleasure of a weekend away staying in a camping pod in at the Grizdale Forrest campsite. The pod is a shed come wooden cabin around 8 foot wide, 9 foot long and 8 foot high in the middle. The pod costs £25 a night to rent and can sleep around 3 adults or 2 adults and two kids.
The idea is that the pod is warm enough for Spring or Autumn and provides a little more luxury than a traditional tent. Grizdale Forrest is located in the South Lake district inbetween Lake Windermere and Coniston. The park (which I’ll talk about in a future post) is located around 2 miles north of the campsite which is located on a working farm.
The camping pods are located round the back of the farm up a small hill. Two are located in the “back garden” of the farm with a further three up the hill in the woods. The ones located in the garden are cheaper at £20 due to the lack of a front decking and location, if you can book one in the forrest.

Thats me!
Clean and warm toilets are located next to the farm house where you can also get a shower and water. In the pot there is a small window at the back and double french doors at the front. The pods have carpet it so you are best leaving shoes outside. Once in they heat up if you close the doors and have either a camping stove on or a light.
I stayed the weekend gone which is March were temperatures were down to 4 c and with a decent sleeping bag it wasn’t cold at all. If you are really worried then a small heater would really help although the pod does steam up with the heat.
So overall if you fancy a trip to the lakes but worried about the rain, the cold and the wind then a camping pod at Grizdale Forrest campsite is a great option. Head over to http://grizedale-camping.co.uk/ for more information and do book if you want to stay in a pod!
