With the festival season coming up its a decision one has to make when travelling in a large group. Is it best to take one large tent or take four to five smaller tents?
A large tent will set you back, the Outwell Norfolk Lake - 8 Berth Tent will cost around £700 from Go Camping. Housing eight people it also has expansive kitchen and living areas. Weight is a big issue, the tent weights in at 32.3kg and the poles at 26.8kg. It will take 2-3 people to carry and around 30 - 1 hr to put up depending on conditions, number of people and how drunk they are at the time!
On the other hand you can pick up the (it is single skin) for £23.99 and it weights in at 2.05kg.
So of you do the math it works out at £96 for four smaller tents which will weight in at 8.2kg in total. So it’s much cheaper to get four smaller tents and a lot less to carry. One problem is with the four smaller tents you don’t have a kitchen / recreation area, a simple solution is to bolt on a campony. Vango do a really smart canopy for £35 which bolts onto a front of one of the tents.
