Detachable backpacks are great for campers who are planning walks. The basic princeple is that a smaller bag can be detached from a larger bag. They are often held together by zips and clips.

The smaller bag will normally hold 10 - 20 liters with the bigger around 50 plus. The benefit is once your have pitched up you can use the smaller bag for you outings in the day.

A detachable, or double bag as they are sometimes called will cost you around £50 to £60 but the price is worth it considering the duel fuctionality.
