Car tents are a bit of oddity, basically you bolt on the side of your car a tent, this might be on the top or on the side of the car. It’s generally seen with jeeps or other bigger vehicle, the tent is installed on the roof rack, a ladder and maybe stilts hang over the edge. 

These types of tents are normally seen in africa or countries with widlife that can harm humans. Sleeping in the tent means that your a good few feet away from the floor and any animals looking for a midnight snack.
